How To Remove Windows 10 Upgrade Icon

Don’t want to upgrade to Windows 10? Me either. Windows 7 is working just fine on my laptop and I don’t want to upgrade. Heard good things about Windows 10. But it does have issues being so new. I recommend waiting 6 months before trying it out. If you have a printer/scanner or software that is a few years old, roll the dice if you want. It might not work with Windows 10. Check with your software vendor for more information. Or just stick with what you have! The rule in IT, if it works, don’t fix it!

If you would like to remove the Windows 10 upgrade notification icon from the system tray (near clock). Go to the Control Panel, Programs and Features, click on View Installed Updates link on left side of window and look for Microsoft Windows Update KB3035583. Then highlight it and click the uninstall. After a reboot. Go to Windows Update, and check for updates. It will find KB3035583 again and want to install as it is a critical update (but it is not really critical), click the link for update KB3035583 information and choose Hide Update.

Once this update has been removed and computer restarted, icon will be gone, never to return!
